National Climate Change Risk Assessment

The New Zealand Government launched a National Climate Change Risk Assessment, which took place in 2019 and 2020. It provided an overview of how climate change may affect New Zealand. This knowledge will be used to prioritise actions for reducing risks and taking advantage of opportunities, forming the basis for the first National Adaptation Plan.

Associate Professor Anita Wreford was responsible for leading the Economy Domain work in the first risk assessment. In September 2019, the Ministry for the Environment published Arotakenga Huringa Āhuarangi: A Framework for the National Climate Change Risk Assessment for Aotearoa New Zealand.
